The Trans Day of Remembrance is held every year on November 20 in Ottawa and around the world to bring attention to Trans People, their lives and struggles for recognition and acceptance.
On Monday, November 20, this year's Trans Day of Remembrance will be observed first in a Candlelight Vigil at the Human Rights Monument on Elgin St at 7:00 pm.
The observance will then move inside City Hall to the Councillors' Lounge to warm up and mingle. The Mayor of Ottawa will proclaim the Day of Remembrance. Speakers will include Paul Dewar and Bill Siksay, MP's and Larry Hill, deputy chief of the Ottawa Police Service. There will be music by Mackenzie Macbride and an Open Mic. This event is open to all Trans People, Allies, family members and friends and is media-positive. The M.C. will be Jessica Freedman.
